Mark Holliday has won his first Club Championship at Carbrook with a one stroke victory over Neil Campbell. It was an up and down battle all day with Holliday holding a small margin as they began the last 9 holes.
A wayward tee shot for Holliday on the 4th went out of bounds and he managed to restrict the damage to a bogey, to retain a one stroke lead. That lead grew to 2 strokes with two remaining. Campbell managed to chip in on the 8th hole for a par after finding trouble off the tee, meaning the lead was two shots with one remaining.
Mark Holliday tees of the 6th in his last round
Holliday was able to hit a perfect iron off the 9th leaving him around 150m in. Campbell who is known for his length took driver knowing he needed a birdie and slotted the drive leaving him only 60m in. With the pin tucked left over the pond, Holliday left his second right and a challenging chip.
Campbell was able to hit a quality pitch just past the hole and left him an 18 foot birdie opportunity. Holliday’s chip ran down to the front edge of the green and he would have just over 20 feet for his par. He managed to two putt for bogey leaving Campbell with an opportunity for the tie, which he just missed leaving the 29 year old Holliday with his first major win at Carbrook.
